JTA 1.4.07 The Israeli prime minister left Thursday for Sharm el-Sheik, where he and the Egyptian president will discuss negotiations for the release of kidnapped Israeli soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit told Reuters that “Israel is offering some measures. What is needed today is for the Palestinian side… to decide.”

There have been conflicting reports on the talks in the past week. Shalit was taken by Palestinian gunmen in a June 25 cross-border raid.
