“The Overlooked Obligation to Fight Terror Under International Law” will be the subject of a lecture and discussion with Professor Abraham “Avi” Bell when he speaks at the University at Buffalo Law School on Thursday, Nov. 30.

The event, which is free and open to the community, will be held in room 106 in John Lord O’Brian Hall, on the Amherst campus, starting at 7 p.m.

Professor Bell is a member of the Faculty of Law of Bar Ilan University, in Israel. He is a Visiting Professor at Fordham University Law School this year. Professor Bell earned a B.A. and J.D. at the University of Chicago and S.J.D. at Harvard University. He is a former clerk for Justice Mishael Cheshin of the Supreme Court of Israel. Before beginning his academic career, Professor Bell worked for the administrative law department of Israel’s State’s Attorney, and for an Israeli commission on the legal rights of persons with disabilities.

Professor Bell has published primarily in the fields of property and international law, but he has also taught courses on administrative law, torts, economic analysis of law, land use law, the law of war and legal aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict. His scholarly works have been published in top law journals including Yale Law Journal, Stanford Law Review,Columbia Law Review, Michigan Law Review,Virginia Law Review and University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and he has a forthcoming book on the taking of property with Yale University Press.

Last year, he was awarded the Alon Prize for outstanding young academics by Israel’s Council for Higher Education.
