SPME-UK Members Seek Volunteers and Donors To Form Chapter
From Various Reports

CST is a British organization providing physical security, training and advice for the protection of British Jews. and offers assistance to victims of antisemitism while monitoring anti-semitic activities and incidents. CST claims to represents British Jewry to Police, Government and media on antisemitism and security. It recently reported that while violent anti-Semitic acts decreased in the community, they did increase on campus. Their report can be found by clicking here. Their report entitled Antisemitic Discourse in Britain can be found by clicking here

In response to the report and to other reports about the British academic scene, SPME urges faculty at British universities and colleges to form a UK SPME chapter. Having a UK chapter will enable you to deal with conditions and needs in the UK from an insider’s perspective. SPME headquarters and global network can help, but we lack background knowledge of local communities and campuses. If you are interested in forming or working with a chapter, the first step is to make an individual contribution of at least $50 to the SPME network. You can contribute by clicking here. Faculty members from Queen Mary’s Hospital, University of London; Heriot-Watt University; University of Aberdeen and Sheffield-Hallam Universities have expressed interest in serving on a chapter steering committee, but they need a chair/coordinator. If you are willing to take on that role, please notify spme@spme.org and provide a brief description of your background and interest in forming and leading the chapter.

Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) is not-for-profit [501 (C) (3)], grass-roots community of scholars who have united to promote honest, fact-based, and civil discourse, especially in regard to Middle East issues. We believe that ethnic, national, and religious hatreds, including anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism, have no place in our institutions, disciplines, and communities. We employ academic means to address these issues.
