Faculty members from sixteen State University of New York campuses have formed Protect New York, an academic society to foster research and education to safeguard New York (both Metro New York and upstate) against terrorism, epidemics, and disaster. SPME Buffalo chapter coordinator Ernest Sternberg also serves as the founding president of Protect New York. Faculty members and graduate students who are interested in research or education on this subject (they do not need to be in the SUNY system or even in New York State) are invited to check out the web page at www.protectnewyork.org and to apply for membership, which is currently free.
