BERLIN (EJP)— Several hundreds of people demonstrated in Berlin on Sunday to protest against anti-Semitic and revisionist statements made by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Ahmadinejad has not only publicly called for the destruction of the State of Israel, he has also been at the forefront of a large international campaign denying the Holocaust. His recent quest to build up his country’s atomic programme has also made people wary, worldwide.

Sunday’s demonstration coincided with the 62nd anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, which was marked around the world by ceremonies on the occasion of Holocaust Memorial Day.

The demonstration was sponsored by the “I Love Israel association” (ILI) and the “Honestly Concerned” pro-Israel monitoring centre.

The demonstrators marched from Berlin’s city hall at Alexanderplatz to the Holocaust Memorial under the slogans:”No fourth Reich with Führer Ahmadinejad” and “Never Again”.

The banners asked “to stop the maniac before it is too late”.

The Iranian president, demonstrators said, “is today the world’s most dangerous politician”.

Germany, in order to facilitate participation at Sunday’s event.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany, the largest Jewish umbrella organisation in the country, didn’t attend the rally, calling it “counterproductive”.

The Central Council said it prefers a subtle “diplomatic approach” to taming Iran’s atomic ambitions and anti-Semitic and anti-Israel rhetoric.
