Benny Begin, Israeli Cabinet Minister and son of former Prime Minister Menachem Begin, is an Israel geologist and politician. He was first elected to the Knesset in 1988 and served as Science Minister under the (and again current) Prime Minister Netanyahu until he resigned the position in 1997 to protest the Hebron Agreement. In 1999 he left politics, resuming a career in science and education, and accepted an appointment as the Director of the Geological Survey in Israel. On November 2, 2008 Begin announced his return to politics and to the Likud party and was elected to his current seat in the Knesset and appointed to his Ministerial position

Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) is not-for-profit [501 (C) (3)], grass-roots community of scholars who have united to promote honest, fact-based, and civil discourse, especially in regard to Middle East issues. We believe that ethnic, national, and religious hatreds, including anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism, have no place in our institutions, disciplines, and communities. We employ academic means to address these issues.
