Penn State’s Center for Ethics and Religious Affairs Issues
Statement on Art Exhibit
CERA Affiliate Staff Advisory Board Statement
(SPME Editor’s Note- CERA is the Board that Oversees The Activities of the Pasquarella Spiritual Center at Penn State Where Student Religious Groups
Housed in An Interfaith Center)

At the CERA Affiliate Staff Advisory Board meeting student complaints about a poster advertising an art exhibit were discussed.

It is the sense of the CERA Affiliate Staff Advisory Board, meeting on April 19, 2006, that sponsorship by Hillel of the art exhibit, “Portraits of Terror” and especially the wide distribution of posters advertising it conflicts with our Ethics Statement. Specifically, CERA is committed to providing a safe climate for all student religious groups, to work toward eliminating prejudice, hatred, and violence, and to promote religious harmony. This poster directly opposes those values.
