New Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) Extends Call for Papers for Inaugural Conference, April 24-26, 2008 to February 15, 2008

Dear Colleague:

The Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) has extended its deadline for submission of paper proposals for its April 24-26 conference entitled “The Evolution of Islamic Politics, Philosophy and Culture in the Middle East and Africa: From Traditional Limits to Modern Extremes.” The new deadline is February 15th. SPME members interested in presenting at the conference should submit proposals by going to the ASMEA website.

To secure a room at the ASMEA conference hotel at a special rate and register to attend the conference, please go here. ASMEA has free lodging available for SPME members who provide a simple statement of need. Partial board will be provided to all registrants including a luncheon hosted by Professor Bernard Lewis of Princeton University.

Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) is not-for-profit [501 (C) (3)], grass-roots community of scholars who have united to promote honest, fact-based, and civil discourse, especially in regard to Middle East issues. We believe that ethnic, national, and religious hatreds, including anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism, have no place in our institutions, disciplines, and communities. We employ academic means to address these issues.
