Association for Israel Studies Conference Program Announced for Brandeis June 12-15, 2011:

- The UCLA Nazarian Center for Israel Studies, Post-Doctoral Fellowship
The Nazarian Center for Israel Studies at UCLA invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Israel Studies for a one-year term, beginning in the Fall of 2011.
Applicants from any field in Israel Studies a re encouraged to apply including (but not limited to) Israeli history, politics, culture, and arts. The Nazarian Center post-doctoral Fellow will be expected to teach one undergraduate course per quarter during the tenure at UCLA. PhD must be in hand by September 1, 2011 and may not have been received before 2006. A Fellowship of $50,000 will be awarded the successful candidate. The Israel Studies Fellow will hold an appointment in a UCLA Department based on the individual’s disciplinary focus and on departmental approval. Fluency in Hebrew is required.
- Fulbright Israel Post-Doctoral Fellowships for American Researchers in All Academic Disciplines
The United States-Israel Educational Foundation (USIEF), the Fulbright commission for Israel, offers 8 fellowships to American post-doctoral researchers in support of work to be carried out at Israeli universities during the course of the 2012/2013-2013/2014 academic years.
The US Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program is open to candidates in all academic disciplines.
Program grants total $40,000, $20,000 per academic year.
Program fellows must be accepted as post-doctoral researchers by Israeli host institutions, which agree to provide them with a standard post-doctoral grant, which they will receive in addition to their Fulbright Fellowship. Thus, the total financial support received by Program Fellows is likely to be in the range of at least $35,000-$40,000 per year.
Applications for 2012/2013-2013/2014 Fulbright Post-Doctoral Fellowships must be submitted to the Council for International Exchange of Scholars by August 1, 2011.
- Department of Languages and Cultures of Near and Middle East, SOAS University of London, Pears Lecturer in Israel Studies
To teach current courses in Israel Studies and develop new courses also – assisting in the overall development of Israel studies at SOAS. The post-holder will carry out research and supervise research students. The post-holder will also carry out all relevant administrative duties and participate actively in the running of the European Association of Israel Studies, in close collaboration with the Pears Senior Research Fellow in Israel Studies.
Key Tasks: Teaching: teach current courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Research: conduct high-quality research in the discipline of Israel Studies – both individually and in close collaboration with subject specialists – preparing work for publication and applying knowledge gained to teaching and scholarship. Supervision: supervise Independent Study Projects (ISP’s), MA theses and doctoral research. Course Convening: coordinate undergraduate degrees in Israel studies and act as the convenor for the MA in Israel Studies.

The European Association of Israel Studies (EAIS) and SOAS wish to appoint a committed and conscientious person as part-time co-coordinator of the EAIS, which is hosted at SOAS.
You will have expertise in administration and organization and will be expected to work with academics internationally. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of membership. You will organize the launch conference for the EAIS later this year and subsequent conferences, workshops and lectures.
You will be computer-literate and will develop the website for the EAIS. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chair of the EAIS, with the EAIS Executive Board and be an active participant in the development and evolution of the organization. A working knowledge of a second regional language is desirable.
The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility that this may be extended to a fourth year.
