ASMEA’s second annual conference will be held October 22-24, 2009 at the Key Bridge Marriott in Washington, D.C. Entitled, The Middle East and Africa: Historic Connections and Strategic Bridges.

A preliminary version of the schedule for ASMEA’s 2009 Annual Conference-The Middle East and Africa: Historic Connections and Strategic Bridges -is now available on ASMEA’s website.

The conference will feature presentations that demonstrate the inter-relationships between the two regions over time with special emphasis on the historical, political, economic, religious, security and cultural links between them.

Along with the academic paper presentations, ASMEA’s 2009 conference will feature special presentations by:

  • ASMEA Chairman Bernard Lewis
  • Dennis Ross, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for the Central Region
  • John Bolton, Former United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security
  • Gerard Prunier, Senior Research Fellow at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in Paris
  • General William E. “Kip” Ward, Commander of U.S. Africa Command (invited)

On top of the normally heavy volume of tourists in the Washington, DC area, a large numbers of visitors are expected in town for the Marine Corps Marathon on Oct. 25th. In light of this, we encourage you to make your travel plans to Washington, DC for our conference as soon as possible.
