SPME Completes Highly Successful Iran Conference and Annual Meeting in Cleveland

The SPME Conference on “The Islamic Republic of Iran: Multidisciplinary Analyses of Its Theocracy, Nationalism and Assertion of Power, conducted in conjunction by the Program of Judaic Studies at Case Western Reserve University from November 8-10 attracted academics, students, activitists and community members to listen to presentations from such distinguished scholars, journalist and activitists as: Effe Eitam, Irwin Cotler and Ambassador Jackie Walcott keynoted the conference while David Menashri, Director of the Center for Iranian Studies at Tel Aviv University; Barry Rubin, Director of the GLORIA Center, IDC, Herzliya; Patrick Clawson, Washington Institute for Near East Policy; Charles Small, Director of Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Anti-Semitism; Kenneth Marcus, Baruch College; Yitzak Kerem, Hebrew Univeristy and Aristotle University; Majid Mohammed, Story Brook Institute for Global Studies; Elihu Richter, Hebrew University; and Andrew Bostom, Brown University; Farhad Sabetan, California State University-East Bay all presented academic papers. Political Cartoonist Nikahang Kowsar and Edwin Black, Journalist and Author spoke. Activitist Amir Fakhravar, Confederation of Iranian Students and Renee Redmann of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center also shared their experiences with those assembles.
