ASMEA’S Annual Conference
October 22-24, 2009

The second annual conference of the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) will be held October 22-24, 2009 at the Key Bridge Marriott in Washington, D.C.

Entitled, The Middle East and Africa: Historic Connections and Strategic Bridges, the conference will feature presentations and roundtables that demonstrate the inter-relationships between the two regions over time with special emphasis on the historical, political, economic, religious, security and cultural links between them.

Advance registration for ASMEA’s conference gives members access to every panel and roundtable, as well as the keynote luncheon, at a significantly discounted rate. Registration includes tickets for the welcome reception, the breakfast buffet each morning, the keynote luncheon, and snacks and beverages.

Full/Associate Members – $50 (Register now )
Student Members – $30 (Register now )
Non-Members – $150 (Register now )

Call for Papers
The Association currently is seeking proposals to present papers at the 2009 conference. Abstracts should pertain to theme of the conference and consist of a one page outline of the subject. All contact data must be attached to the proposal (name, email, phone number, affiliation). The due date for proposals is June 1, 2009. Proposals should be sent to: info@asmeascholars.org.

ASMEA members from any discipline who are tenured or untenured faculty may submit proposals to participate on specific panels in the conference. Unique proposals from senior graduate students (ABD) also will be considered. Participants on the panels may attend the conference free of charge. All decisions to invite presenters to participate on panels will be made by the Association’s officers and members of the Academic Council. The due date for completed papers is Sept. 1, 2009.

Referees and Discussants

Members of the Association who are interested in participating in the conference as referees of papers or discussants should contact ASMEA by email with a letter of interest and the panels/areas you are interested in covering. Please include all current contact data (name, email, phone number) and a brief recitation of your past experience in these roles. Referees and discussants may attend the conference free of charge. Interested parties should send an email to: info@asmeascholars.org.
