Scholars for Peace in the Middle East is pleased to announce that Professor Shlomo Dubnov, Associate Professor of Music Technology will be coordinating a chapter of SPME at the University of California-San Diego.

Dubnov states that, ” UC- San Diego is a very active center culture and holds numerous debates and dialogues related to peace process, the Palestinian problem and Jewish aspects in contemporary cultural conflicts. Most of these debates suffer from disinformation and lack of a clear stand or narrative on the role of Zionism and anti-Semitism related to current problems. SPME seems to be a rare opportunity to consolidate best thinkers in Academia and outside in order to come up with a clear, positive and unapologetic voice on most burning issues relevant to peace in the Middle East. I think that the first and foremost action is to collect and provide sufficient information and advice for those who feel the need for the current peace dialogue to be more balanced and are seeking to be informed. The CampusConsultNet is a wonderful idea and I would be most happy to see how it can be developed and ran efficiently. The next step in my opinion would be to increase the visibility and public exposure of SPME though encouraging participation in peace related events, and becoming a more proactive resource for education about the values of peace in a true and honest manner. This probably requires additional networking and coordination with non-political organizations outside the academia, mostly in the fields of independent media, education and etc. I would be happy to see into these issues, contributing some of my project management skills and Israeli contacts, in order to help proliferate and represent SPME voice in San Diego and UCSD, and outside. “

Shlomo is an associate Professor in music technology at UCSD. Prior to this he served as invited researcher in Institute for Research and Coordination of Acoustics and Music (IRCAM) in Paris and was a senior lecturer in department of communication systems engineering in Ben-Gurion University in Israel. He holds PhD in Computer Science from Hebrew University and B.Mus. in music composition from Rubin Academy in Jerusalem. He served 8 years in IDF as a project officer in the distinguished Talpiot program and worked as a consultant in Israel Ministry of Defence on issues of system engineering and operational research.
