A Dialogue Across the Abyss
Shlomo Avineri – Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel – in dialogue with Ramin Jahanbegloo – Shahid Beheshti University, Teheran, Iran” on May 11.
The German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung informed that Ramin Jahanbegloo was several days ago arrested. Already a few days ago “Etemad- e Melli” informed about the arrest of the prominent Iranian intellectual. According to Pressagency Fars, Jahanbegloo is held in the infamous Evin prison and accused to have committed espionage.
Ramin Jahanbagloo was born in Teheran, Iran. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy, History and Political Science and later his Ph.D in Philosophy from the Sorbonne University. In 1993 he taught at the Academy of Philosophy in Teheran. He has been researcher at the French Institute for Iranian Studies and a fellow at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard. He was an adjunct professor in political philosophy at the University of Toronto and he is Iranian and Canadian citizen. Ramin Jahanbegloo is the author of numerous books and articles and presently heads the Department for Contemporary Studies, CRB-Iran.
Jahanbagloo visited during the past months India. He was arrested at Airport Mehrabad when he returned to Iran. There is no official explanation for his arrest. Jahanbegloo has criticized in an interview given abroad the Iranian president because of his statement, that the Holocaust is a fairy tale.
