Open Letter to the UN, Governments, NGO's & Religious Groups to Condemn Ahmadinejad's Call To

Dear Friends,
We are recirculating this petition with the hope that you will help us reach 2000 signatures within the next few weeks for presentation to the Iranian governnment. Thank you.

We, the undersigned scholars from the international community, join the Board of Directors of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East, www.spme.net in condemning the calls of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to "purge" Iran's universities of "liberal and secular" scholars as reported by the Islamic News Agency in the Jerusalem Post, September 5, 2006 at http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1154526007162&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull


We call upon the UN, individual governments, religious groups of all faiths, human rights NGO's and others to publicly condemn this egregious action and take appropriate steps to initiate sanctions if they are put into action.

Such actions are characteristic of the most brutal of totalitarian and fascistic societies. Such actions represent a flagrant disregard for the principles of academic excellence, academic freedom and academic integrity.

Such actions have historically signaled the start of more heinous oppression in the countries in which they have been instituted and we cannot stand by without affirming the strongest of protests.
