(SPME Faculty Forum Editor’s Note: Professor Pearl is a Professor of Computer Science at UCLA and father of terrorist slain Wall Street Journalist reporter, Daniel Pearl. )

On January 26, in observance of the International Day of Commemoration and in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, Daniel Pearl Foundation President Judea Pearl spoke at a United Nations Briefing on the theme of “Remembrance and Beyond.” Judea began by honoring the memory of his grandparents, who perished in Auschwitz in 1942, and his son Danny, who was killed 60 years later in 2002, by the same forces of bigotry and intolerance. He stressed the importance of educational programs to prevent future acts of genocide. See a full transcript and webcast of the speech.

We employ academic means to address these issues.
