A documentary film and a panel of experts to represent Palestinian and Israeli points of view, including Dr. Shlomo Dubnov and Dr. Nasser Barghouti.

February 24, 2009 (El Cajon)-The East County Democratic Club is sponsoring a public forum on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the El Cajon Library Community Room on Sunday, March 1. The event will screen the 80-minute documentary film “Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land — U.S. Media & the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict” at 2 p.m. The film describes stark differences in media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and will help start a discussion about the current standoff. After the film, the event will include comments and moderated Q&A by a panel of experts.

Although this topic clearly has more than just two viewpoints, two experts have been invited to help the community understand the issues surrounding the conflict. The Palestinian viewpoint will be represented by Dr. Nasser Barghouti, executive director of the Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) / San Diego Chapter. Israel’s perspective will be represented by Dr. Shlomo Dubnov from the Department of Music at UCSD and the San Diego chapter chair for Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME – https://spme.org ). Mr. Raymond Lutz, recent candidate for the 77th State assembly district, and president of the East County Democratic Club will moderate the discussion.

The public is invited to arrive early to guarantee a good seat to the event, as seating is limited. A networking reception will be held at 1:30 p.m. prior to the film. (Because of the graphic nature of this topic, no children will be admitted.) The El Cajon Library is located at 201 E. Douglas, El Cajon, CA 92020, near Magnolia and Douglas, and can be reached at (619) 588-3718.

This event is not sponsored or endorsed by the library.
