July 2011

Shalom,

I’m writing you in my capacity as the new editor of the Israel Studies Review. The ISR, which is the official journal of the Association for Israel Studies, was formerly the Israel Studies Forum. It has been renewed, upgraded, and renamed. Other changes are additions to the editorial board, a much stricter review process, upgraded design, with updated fonts, colors, etc. We have introduced new sections such as a “Forum” for informed and scholarly discussion, review essays of publications in Hebrew and more.

The new issue with all these changes (Summer 2011) has just been mailed to subscribers. If you’re not currently a subscriber, please go to http://journals.berghahnbooks.com/isr/index.php?pg=sample
to see a free online copy. By clicking on the arrows on the right size of the page, you can read through the entire ISR issue. Subscription information can be found on the tool bar on the left side of webpage.

If you are an academic or scholar in a field related to Israel Studies, please consider sending us your next article. We are an interdisciplinary journal so it’s very likely that we are looking for articles in your field. Contact our managing editor, Paul Scham, with any questions or to submit your articles, at Israelstudiesreview@gmail.com. Or, go to our home page at http://journals.berghahnbooks.com/isr/ for more about the ISR, including information for contributors.

As we are seeking to make the journal more visible, we would very much appreciate it if you would approach your university librarian and urge that s/he subscribe without delay. There is an online form at http://journals.berghahnbooks.com/isr/isr_lib.pdf
especially for libraries.

The ISR publishes both qualitative and quantitative papers, emphasizing originality, important contributions to the field, and the highest quality. In the near future we are planning two special issues, on gender and on law and society. We are also seeking articles relating to foreign workers, the new middle class, and the family in Israel. Please feel free to send us abstracts of papers you are thinking of writing.

I urge you to mention the new and refurbished Israel Studies Review to friends, colleagues, and anyone who may be interested in
cutting-edge research on Israel in a variety of different fields.

Best wishes for the summer

Yoram Peri

Scholars for Peace in the Middle East (SPME) is not-for-profit [501 (C) (3)], grass-roots community of scholars who have united to promote honest, fact-based, and civil discourse, especially in regard to Middle East issues. We believe that ethnic, national, and religious hatreds, including anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism, have no place in our institutions, disciplines, and communities. We employ academic means to address these issues.
