Islam and Modernism. Mufti M. T. Usmani. Published by Adam Publishers & Distributors, 2005. pp.40

I noticed that you had a piece by Mark Clark addresing Ibrahim’s review of Malik’s “The Quranic Concept of War.” Perhaps a more interesting work from the perpective of SPME is Muhammad Taqi Usmani’s “Islam and Modernism “, which I review in some depth in the forthcoming Fall 2008 issue of the journal “Terrorism and Political Violence.” (A review essay on “Islam and War”, which includes a review of Ibrahim’s “The Al Qaeda Reader “, also appears in this issue.) Usmani served for 20 years as a sharia judge on Pakistan’s Supreme Court and runs a madrassa. This is the one work I would recommend for anyone who truly wants to understand the Islamist mindset and the problems it poses for non – Muslims and moderate Muslims.
