No field has suffered more from agenda-driven scholarship than Middle Eastern studies, provoking a crisis of confidence in credentialed experts. This discussion will survey the last fifty years of Middle East scholarship, and discuss ways in which today’s young scholars, committed to informing their fellow citizens about the realities the Middle East, can successfully pursue a career in the academy, the think tanks, and journalism, without compromising their integrity.
