Why It Is Important to Support the SPME Statement on the Expulsion of the Ariel University Center from Solar Decathlon 2010

The expulsion of the Ariel University Center from Solar Decathlon 2010 was an exclusively political decision taken by the Spanish Government under pressure from the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, the UK-based Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine (APJP) and other organizations that purport to be pro-Palestinian. This fact never has been denied by Spanish authorities; on the contrary, a letter from the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid written in the name of Solar Decathlon 2010 and published on the Spanish website of „Mujeres por la Paz y Accion Solidaria con Palestina“ confirms that the decision was taken exclusively on political grounds.

In recent years, Scholars for Peace in the Middle East has been successful in defeating campaigns that have singled out Israeli academics and institutions for boycott and divestment.

The expulsion of Ariel is unprecedented. For the first time, a national government has explicitly discriminated against an Israeli academic institution. SPME needs your help to reverse this disastrous decision. Now is the time to take action against the politicization of academic affairs. Please join Nobel Laureates and scholars from universities all over the world in signing SPME’s Statement on the Expulsion of Ariel University Center of Samaria from Solar Decathlon 2010 on Political Grounds

Thank You

The Board of Directors of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East
