U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Seeks to End Campus Anti-Semitism.

  • 0

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (Commission) is engaged in a public education campaign to end campus anti-Semitism. In April 2006, the Commission announced its finding that anti-Semitism is a serious problem today at many of the nation’s post-secondary educational institutions. At a public briefing in November 2005, a panel of experts testified that too many students are not knowledgeable about their rights and protections against anti-Semitic behavior. Campus Anti-Semitism, the Commission’s recent report may be found at http://www.usccr.gov/pubs/081506campusantibrief07.pdf.

The Commission is conducting this public education campaign in order to ensure that college students know what their rights are. The core of the Commission’s campaign is a special Web site and its address is http://www.usccr.gov/campusanti-semitism.html. The Commission rolled out its campaign on April 11, 2007. On April 13, 2007, at its monthly meeting, the Commission launched the campaign Web site.

Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Kenneth L. Marcus, staff director, at (202) 376-7700 or Dr. Sock-Foon C. MacDougall at smacdougall@usccr.gov if you have suggestions for the Commission’s campaign, if you wish to assist in other ways, or if there is anything that we can do to assist you in your efforts to combat discrimination.
