SPME Austria Chapter Announces Book

Contributions to the lecture series “Israel at 60: Aspects from History and the Present,” organized by the Austrian Chapter of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East at the University in Vienna, will be available under the title “Israel-Geschichte und Gegenwart” as Vol. 24 of the series “Studien zur politischen Wirklichkeit,” published by Wilhelm Braumüller Publishers. The editor of the book is Brigitte Bailer. Anton Pelinka is the editor of the series.

The following authors contributed to the book: Elenore Lappin (History of Zionism), Barry Rubin (Themes in the History of Israel); Raimund Fastenbauer (The Intellectual Crisis in Zionism ), Doron Rabinovici (Debating the Shoah in Israel), Brigitte Bailer (Austria-Israel after 1945, the Negotiations with the Committee for Jewish Claims on Austria), Ralf Balke (The Forgotten Exodus: The Expulsion of Jews from Arab Countries), Wolfgang Benz (Anti-Semitism, Anti-Zionism and the “New” Anti-Semitism), Peter Landesmann (The History of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem), Gerald M. Steinberg (Postcolonial Ideology and the Arab-Israeli Conflict), Susi Shaked (Hadassah Medical Organization – The Hadassah Hospitals in Jerusalem, a Center of Peace), Rudolf Orthofer (Water Management in the Jordan Valley) and Avraham Faust (Archaeology and Politics in Israel: A Different Perspective).

The articles by Steinberg, Rubin and Faust are in English; all the others are in German.

The book is scheduled for summer 2009 and will be presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair in September 2009. The official announcement of this book can be found here.
