Join leading scholars of Middle Eastern and African studies, and related disciplines at the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa’s (ASMEA) inaugural conference this spring in our nation’s capital.

Set for April 24-26, 2008 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., the conference-entitled “The Evolution of Islamic Politics, Philosophy, and Culture in the Middle East and Africa: From Traditional Limits to Modern Extremes-will feature a combination of panels and roundtables with academics and policy makers focused on the important Islamic influence in these regions.

The keynote speech at the conference will be delivered by ASMEA’s Chairman, Professor Bernard Lewis of Princeton University on Friday, April 25th from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm. Professor Lewis’s speech, entitled “Studying the Other: Different Ways of Looking at the Middle East and Africa,” will address the future of the Middle East.
