Ottawa – Mount Royal Member of Parliament Irwin Cotler, Liberal Special Counsel for Human Rights and International Justice, commented that,“Apartheid has emerged as a metaphor for one of the great evils for the Twentieth Century – along with Nazism – and is enshrined in international law as a crime against humanity. The very label supplies the indictment. No further debate is required. The conviction is secured. Only the sentence needs to be determined..”

Cotler added: “Let there be no mistake about it: to indict Israel as an Apartheid State is prologue and justification for the dismantling of the Jewish State, for the criminalization of its supporters, and for the consequential silencing of their speech.”

When the United Nations’ “Zionism is Racism” Resolution was adopted (and later repealed), the late Unites States Senator Daniel Moynihan and the great Soviet dissident Andrei Sakarov said that it “gave the abomination of anti-Semitism the appearance of international legal sanction.”

Israel Apartheid Week seeks to take one step further – to launder anti-Semitism under the cover of the struggle against racism. To the abomination of Anti-Semitism, it adds the hypocrisy of a cover-up.

Cotler concluded: “And if that is not enough, the Israel Apartheid Week slides inexorably into the indictment of Israel not only as an Apartheid State, but as a Nazi State, making the dismantling of Israel not only hortatory, but mandatory – and all, as it were, in the name of the struggle against racism. What hypocrisy – what bigotry – what an abomination.”

Le professeur Cotler condamne l’hypocrisie et le sectarisme de la Semaine contre l’apartheid israélien

Ottawa – Le député de Mont-Royal Irwin Cotler, conseiller libéral spécial en matière de droits de la personne et de justice internationale, a déclaré que « l’apartheid apparaît comme une métaphore pour l’un des pire maux du XXe siècle – de pair avec le nazisme – et fait partie intégrante du droit international comme un crime contre l’humanité. Apartheid: l’étiquette à elle seule appelle l’inculpation. Sans autre forme de débat. La condamnation est assurée. Reste à déterminer la sentence.

Le professeur Cotler a ajouté: « Ne nous y méprenons pas: accuser Israël de pratiquer l’apartheid est le prologue et la justification pour le démantèlement de l’État juif, pour la criminalisation de ses partisans, et pour leur musellement subséquent.

Lorsque la résolution des Nations unies « sionisme = racisme » a été adoptée (pour ensuite être abrogée), le sénateur états-unien Daniel Moynihan (depuis décédé) et le célèbre dissident soviétique Andrei Sakarov ont réagi en disant qu’elle « donnait à l’abomination qu’est l’antisémitisme l’apparence d’une sanctions judiciaire internationale ».

La Semaine contre l’apartheid israélien cherche à aller plus loin – blanchir l’antisémitisme sous le couvert de la lutte contre le racisme. À l’abomination de l’antisémitisme, elle ajoute l’hypocrisie de la dissimulation.

Et le professeur Cotler de conclure: « Et, si ce n’est pas suffisant, la Semaine contre l’apartheid israélien glisse inexorablement dans l’inculpation d’Israel non seulement en tant qu’État pratiquant l’apartheid, mais en tant qu’État nazi, rendant le démantèlement d’Israël non plus uniquement exhortatif, mais impératif – et cela, pour ainsi dire, au nom de la lutte contre le racisme. Quelle hypocrisie, quel sectarisme, quelle abomination. »
