Washington, 17 November (IranVNC)-A number of university students today gathered outside Jordan’s embassy in Tehran to protest what they called some Arab countries’ moves to normalize ties with Israel, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported today.

Protestors carried placards, which read: “No compromise, no submission, fight until collapse,” and “Israel must be wiped from the page of time,” in Persian, and “He who hears a man calling out to the Muslims and does not reply is not a Muslim”, and “Oh, Muslims! Unite, unite,” in Arabic, the agency reported.

“The viewpoints of the heads of some countries on relations with Israel is not the perspective of the Islamic Ummah, but rather, tribal and ethnic viewpoints and, as Imam [Ruhollah] Khomeini said, they are the viewpoints of American Islam,” the agency quoted Isma’il Tahmurasi, a representative of the student organization, the Office for Fostering Unity, as saying in a news conference today.

The students, who yesterday also protested outside the embassies of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, denounced a Saudi-sponsored interfaith conference held last week at the United Nations in New York.

“The conference of religions was not religious in nature, but was rather for political relations with Israel and had a political nature,” said Mohammad Saleh Miftah, a representative of the World of Islam Movement and the student Basij, said.

At the conference, Israel’s President Shimon Peres had praised a Saudi peace plan for the Middle East as a “serious opening for real progress,” the Jewish Telegraph Agency reported.

The Saudi-backed peace plan, initiated in 2002, proposes Arab recognition of Israel in exchange for Israel’s withdrawal from all Arab lands captured in 1967.
