HONOLULU – A group of psychiatrists plan to boycott the American Psychiatric Association convention in Honolulu this weekend to protest Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu who is expected to deliver the convocation lecture.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Thursday the group opposes the archbishop’s stance on the State of Israel.

The association’s president says Tutu was asked to speak about his observations of the nature of humanity during the South Africa reconciliation process.

More than 10,000 psychiatrists from 76 countries are expected to attend the convention this weekend.

It is the second largest event to be held at the Hawaii Convention Center this year.
