UW-Milwaukee Chancellor Carlos Santiago has traveled to Israel this week to promote the progress Milwaukee has made in studying freshwater sciences and developing related products. Santiago is accompanying the governor and local business leaders who are attending an international water conference in Tel Aviv. University spokesman Tom Luljak says the chancellor will work to convince other countries and companies to bring their business and researchers to Milwaukee.

“We now need to go ahead and promote the opportunities that exist here, both for businesses to expand here or to bring their operations here, or to send their young people or scientists to study at our new school of freshwater,” Luljak says.

Luljak says UWM’s new School of Freshwater Sciences will enroll its first group of students in fall of 2010.
